Friends for the Journey!
Saints are an amazing part of the Catholic faith; they show us what it means to live the life of Christ no matter who you are, what time in history it is, or where in the world you live. They are our role models!
Do Catholics worship the Saints and the Virgin Mary? NO!
Then why do we have pictures, statues and prayers to them?
We keep images of Saints because we love them! Do you have a picture of your family or friends on your desk or mantel? We keep these images around us because they remind us of our family in heaven, the members of the Body of Christ who have gone before us. Their images remind us of their courageous lives, their successes, and their failures. They remind us that becoming holy is our top priority in life—and if they can do it, so can we!
Why do we pray to the Saints or the Virgin Mary?
We ask the Saints for their prayers because it doesn’t matter is someone is living or dead, we are all part of the Body of Christ! When you are sick or in trouble, do you ask your mom, your dad, your friends and prayer group to pray for you? Asking for the prayers of the Saints is the same thing!
The Saints are our friends and family in heaven!
